Sweat Is Fat Crying

“Sweat is fat crying” is a quote from Pinterest that got my attention today as I thought about my tough-as-nails workout this morning.  (Can I get an amen from my Fat Burn Friday Power Chisel class? – it was doosie this morning)   As I pondered on this quote, I decided that I like the thought of making fat cry.  I think that if I get real honest with myself, I may even have a small mean streak in me that is at least a mile wide (just don’t tell anyone – I try to keep it hidden —- pause for dramatic effect as my family and friends stop laughing at the thought of it being hidden —- now back to my ramblings on meanness…).  I think I may even enjoy letting that meanness out every now and then during a workout.

As a personal trainer, I have a friend that works the front desk at our training facility that always greets me in the mornings and asks if Mean Shelley or Sweet Shelley showed up.  I usually reply, “Why, sweet Shelley of course!” and then hit him with the sweetest, slyest grin I can muster as I go set up for my first victim of the morning.  He then proceeds to ask my clients one by one as they leave that very  same question and repeatedly they mention Mean Shelley as being present in our workout.  They always smile over their shoulder and peer through their sweat soaked face as they shuffle toward the exit door a little more tired than they were when he first saw them that morning.  At first glance, you would be quick to judge and think Mean Shelley was there and wonder why on earth they pay good money for a beating week after week.  But if you look a little closer, you will notice (maybe through their fatigue) that their head is held high, their shoulders are back and they are standing proud knowing that they’ve  accomplished something hard today.  They made fat cry – not just any fat — they made their fat cry.  It wasn’t Shelley that was mean.   It was themselves that was mean.  They showed up and they workout hard.  They gave 100% and left their fat’s tears all over the gym floor.   My clients rock!  They own their workouts.  They are a group of lean, mean fitness machines and they make me proud!

Make yourself proud today.  Get mean and make your fat cry!
