OPERATION FIT – WEEK #5: Proper Portions

baby watermelonHave you ever uttered the phrase, “My eyes were bigger than my stomach” after not being able to eat all the food that you dished out on your plate?   If you have, then you know that controlling portions aren’t easy, nor does it happen automatically.  It is something we have to teach ourselves to do.

Trying to eyeball serving sizes takes practice.  So that is exactly what we are going to do this week.  Your challenge this week is to read labels, weigh, measure and educate yourself on what proper portions look like.  I suggest investing in some kitchen scales.  They’re not very expensive and are very handy to have around.  I  have even used them with my kids when they were begging for junk food they didn’t need.  We’d compromise and I’d have them read the label and measure out a true serving size.  The deal was that if they were still hungry afterwards, they would have to follow up with something nutritious.   It worked like a charm since most junk food is not very filling.  They got their treat and I got some nutrition in their bodies.  Hmm?  Maybe we could work the same deal on a bad temptation day.

Anyway, click here for this week’s journal guide and  handy-visual portion guide.

Happy Portioning!!
